Balsall Heath Jungle will give priority to people living in Birmingham 12, in its employment, membership, volunteering and management policies, and in the services it provides, subject to the constraints of the law. Birmingham 12 is an inner city area of high unemployment, low income, and a high concentration of ethnic minority groups.

Aim of the Policy

present and potential Balsall Heath Jungle members, Management Committee members, employees, contractors, volunteers, customers and users of our services

on the grounds of:-

ethnic group, religion, culture, language, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, class, income or employment status.

Implementation of the Policy

1. One member of the Management Committee will have overall responsibility for equal opportunities.

2. ALL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS, STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS WILL RECEIVE TRAINING ON EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES.

3. Balsall Heath Jungle will seek imaginative ways of including people who may be disadvantaged by language barriers.

4. Balsall Heath Jungle will seek to reflect the diversity of the area in its recruitment of members, staff, volunteers, and steering group members.

5. There will be an annual review of this policy and its implementation .

6. The Management Committee will be informed as soon as possible of any complaints about discrimination by Balsall Heath Jungle.

7. Balsall Heath Jungle will respond in writing to such complaints, and take any reasonable action to correct any discrimination which is brought to its attention.
