How do I protect newly planted onion sets from birds?

Start your writing in the box.  (You can make the box into a table using the icons above to add rows and columns.)

Last year I planted my onion sets very shallow (they grow bigger that way), which means birds can easily pull them out.  I had some logs laid around the edges of the plot, so I stretched some green plastic garden netting over the plot and pinned it to the logs.  (I found the netting in a skip!)  This is much better than laying it directly over the onions because when they grow they can get tangled up in it.
