13 FEBRUARY 2005 Despite the snow today, I managed to make progress with my food
production for this season. I have now potted up two little apple trees
which had been contained in very small bags for several years. Last
year they produced a small crop of good-sized apples (I did thin the
young fruits out). I also washed my potatoes today and placed them
in trays in a window to chit. I am growing 6 varieties this year - a
record for me if I can achieve it. I also started some seed off in
an airing cupboard. The seeds I chose were skirret, celeriac, lettuce
and Jerusalem artichoke - they might sound unusual, but I will be
growing more ordinary vegetables as well.
8 FEB 2005 I took 4 bags of home-made compost down to my allotment in a bike trailer recently, to put on my new beds.
