Slug Traps

Show Tools

3 recipes for slug trap bait to put in slug traps (e.g. a jam jar dug into in the ground with a little roof over it.

Slug Dough

(Source: Organic Gardening magazine, quoted in a leaflet supplied with a plastic slug trap by Green Science Controls)
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 3 tablespoons cornmeal
  • half a cup of flour
  • half a cup of water
  • half a tablespoon of yeast
Keep it in the fridge

Non-alcoholic beer

According to Green Science Controls, this works better than normal beer.  Fill the trap to about half an inch from the top with fresh beer.  Clean and refull every other day.

Other baits

(Again from Green Science Controls, 01244 281 333)
Fermenting bread dough, or lettuce or cabbage or sliced potatoes or turnips in salty or soapy water.
