Thug's Garden in March

Show Tools

6 March 2005

The robins have ignored the bird boxes and gone for the ivy in our yard. They've made their nest on a shelf behind some ivy. They have to wait a long time for the all clear because we move around a lot in the kitchen. We're hoping to learn more about nesting acivities with such a gift of a view. -Thug

6 March 2005

We filled in the gaps in our autumn-planted "Radar" onion sets with "Centurion" onion sets from Balsall Heath Jungle. We also put in a little more garlic. We replanted 3 fruit trees (a plum, a greengage and a jostaberry) which have been in the same tubs for 2 or 3 years into bigger tubs (90 litre ones!), using the usual opportunisitic mixture of composts. We pruned the jostaberry, which is very overgrown (the buds are just beginning to open).

Daughter1 made her own garden in a 58 litre tub. She planted a strawberry and an onion, and potted up another strawberry to keep in the bay window. The strawberries came from a ten litre polythene pot which has been sitting on our front path for years - we divided it into 6 plants and potted them all up. -Fuchse

How lucky are you! Can I creep round and watch their antics! I have ivy on a fence at home if anyone would like cuttings it makes really good habitat for wildlife!
