Tindal School Garden2005to2006

Tindal School Sep 2004 - Aug 2005

"Every Friday lunchtime we have a gardening club in the "wildlife garden", which also has fruit trees and four vegetable beds."

17 March 2005 Lunchtime Gardening Club

The weather has finally warmed up and spring has sprung! It was hot and sunny in the garden and we saw ladybirds and bumblebees for the first time. We took photographs of the raised beds and wrote down what was in them. A lot of the perenial herbs that were planted last year are coming back and the strawberries are looking great, the rhubarb is almost ready to eat! The broad beans we planted in the Autumn are looking really healthy. We seem to have garlic in almost every bed?

We have seen the first blossom out, you can click here to see a picture. We think it is a gage tree.

There have been a lot of birds seen around the wildlife garden, some Great tits have been looking around the nest boxes that were put up last year. One of our groups members has drawn a picture you can look at of a blue tit. These can be seen living in Balsall Heath!

11 March 2005 Lunchtime Gardening Club

It was still to wet to go into the garden so Rob helped us make paper pots to plant garlic in.We have each planted a clove of garlic and have taken it home to look after and see what happens.

4 March 2005 Lunchtime Gardening Club

"It was raining so we went inside and Rob and Ruth gave us new folders with a worksheet about potatoes and everyone got a potato to take home and draw it, put it in a light indoor place and draw it again in 6 days. They gave us a Balsall Heath Jungle newsletter in the folder too."

The Lunchtime Gardening Club in February 2005

"We planted garlic and broad beans and forced some early rhubarb by putting a bucket over the emerging shoots"
